Paul Pogba still determined to win trophies with Man Utd
Paul Pogba has spoken honestly about wanting to win trophies with Manchester United, despite the ongoing speculation about his future at the club, which stemmed from agent Mino Raiola telling the world his client is unhappy and wants to leave as soon as possible.
Pogba was part of the last United side to win any trophies, picking up both the EFL Cup and Europa League in Jose Mourinho’s first season in charge back in 2016/17.
Since the start of 2019/20, United have improved in the hope of ending that silverware drought and have reached four semi-finals in three competitions in the last 18 months. But falling again at the penultimate hurdle in the Carabao Cup to Manchester City was a disappointment, despite signifying the consistency and progress to get to the latter stages of another competition.
Pogba didn’t give the impression of a player desperate to leave when he spoke about targeting trophies with United and only the ‘big stuff’.
“Football and playing for Manchester United is not easy, it will never be easy, but it makes the victory prettier and more beautiful when we get through a tough time, then we get through this,” the 27-year-old is quoted as saying by the Daily Telegraph.
“It is beautiful and you get the emotion. That is all we want. That is what the fan wants, that is what the team wants, everyone wants this. The club is built on winning and big things, so that is all we want to get – the big stuff.”
On losing a semi-final for the fourth time in the space of two seasons, he added: “It is very annoying to lose because there is a trophy behind all of this. We have to do better for sure. It is about details. Details make the difference all of the time and now when it is big games like this, it is details and at set-pieces we lost [against Man City]. We have to learn because it is not the first time.”
The last time Pogba directly addressed his own future in public, which came during the October international break, he appeared optimistic about life at Old Trafford – a very different picture to the one Raiola painted only a few weeks later.
“I heard a lot of noise that I was going to leave and that I had to go to clubs on the right to the left. Today I am still at Manchester and I am fighting to try again to bring the club to the highest level,” Pogba himself explained at the time.
“I am in Manchester and I love my club. I perform in Manchester, I have fun and I want to do everything to put the club where it deserves it. I will give my all, like my teammates.”
