Paris Saint-Germain will announce the signing of Lionel Messi at a press conference on Wednesday 11 August at 11am local time.
Messi is leaving Barcelona after the club’s perilous financial situation made it impossible for them to offer him a new contract. He was a transcendent figure during his time at the Camp Nou, topping records and winning trophies with stunning regularity.
PSG will be hoping that his arrival helps them finally secure the Champions League title that the club craves.
Messi arrived in Paris on Tuesday afternoon, where he was greeted by hundreds of fans at Le Bourget airport. Minutes before PSG had posted a video confirming his arrival and according to Get France Football News, they will formally announce the signing at a press conference on Wednesday. Things will kick off at 11am local time.
It is the second press conference that Messi has had to conduct in a matter of days. Last week La Pulga bid an emotional goodbye to Barcelona, tearing up as he said his farewells in front of the gathered media.
His arrival in Paris is as rewarding for PSG as it is damaging for Barca. It caps off an incredible transfer window from the club too.
As well as Messi, Sergio Ramos has also joined on a free transfer - meaning they have managed to capture the captain of each club of the Clasico divide. In addition, one of the best goalkeepers on the planet, Gianluigi Donnarumma, has signed. Meanwhile, Georginio Wijnaldum has joined following the expiration of his Liverpool contract. Completing the new arrivals is Inter right-back Achraf Hakimi.
With such a strong squad at his disposal Mauricio Pochettino will be expected to breeze to the Ligue 1 title this season, as well as put in a strong Champions League showing.
