A young Tottenham side showed their inexperience on Thursday as they fell 1-0 to Pacos de Ferreira in the first leg of their Europa Conference League playoff tie.

As expected, Spurs dominated possession during the first 45 minutes, but they didn't create any real chances and deservedly fell behind shortly before the break after the three-man defence were completely undone by a counter-attack which was perfectly finished off by Lucas Silva right before the whistle.

Spurs started to pile on the pressure after the break but really struggled to create anything of note as Pacos sat deep to defend their lead, and the Portuguese side held on very comfortable to seal a well-deserved 1-0 win.

Here's how the Spurs players got on.

Tottenham player ratings

1. Goalkeeper & Defenders

Cristian Romero

Pierluigi Gollini (GK) - 5/10 - Didn't have anything particularly tricky to do but perhaps could have done better with the goal. Didn't look like he fancied a one-on-one at all.

Cameron Carter-Vickers (CB) - 2/10 - Looked so off the boil defensively. Allowed far too much to get past him and very obviously had no idea how to play alongside Romero.

Cristian Romero (CB) - 4/10 - Didn't exactly cover himself in glory either. Had some really shaky moments, nearly gave up some good chances early on and ended up being caught out of position for the opener.

Ben Davies (CB) - 5/10 - Isn't a centre-back and that was abundantly clear. Even his passing was sloppy far too often.

2. Midfielders

Bryan Gil

Matt Doherty (RM) - 4/10 - The kind of performance that will have reminded Nuno while he sold him in the first place. So disappointing going forwards and it felt like he misplaced everything he touched.

Giovani Lo Celso (CM) - 4/10 - Should have been laughing against this level of opposition. Really struggled to do anything with the ball and looked uncomfortable against Pacos' press.

Harry Winks (CM) - 4/10 - Another absent performance from one of the game's most experienced players. Couldn't get hold of the ball at all and didn't offer nearly enough.

Ryan Sessegnon (RM) - 5/10 - Evidently lacking both fitness and confidence. Had a non-existent first half but slowly started to pick himself up after the break.

Nile John (AM) - 3/10 - Gets this low rating purely because he didn't offer anything at all in his 45 minutes, but that's entirely the fault of everyone around him. Starved of service for the entire first half.

Bryan Gil (LM) - 6/10 - Looks very fun. Had some very exciting moments early on down the left side and sometimes caught his own teammates off guard with the kind of things he could do. Lacked a bit of end product but that should come with time.

3. Forward

Dane Scarlett

Dane Scarlett (ST) - 4/10 - Just so alone up top. Gil often drifted inside to try and bring the game to Scarlett but it just didn't work. Feeding off long balls and aimless runs all evening long. Really put in a shift trying to get involved though.

4. Substitutes

Jack Clarke - 5/10

J'Neil Bennett - N/A

Maksim Paskotsi - N/A
