Ousmane Dembele failed to report to Barcelona training on Sunday, blaming his absence on a stomach bug.
Dembele's relationship with the club is extremely strained currently with Barça finally losing patience in contract negotiations. The forward's deal is set to expire at the end of the season and the Blaugrana has set several deadlines for the player to renew.
All of these have been missed, despite Barça's public praise of the injury-prone Frenchman. Earlier this week club director Mateu Alemany revealed that they would be looking to sell Dembele 'immediately'.
These comments have since been heavily criticised by Spain's player union, who claim that Barcelona are in danger of infringing the 24-year-old's labour rights. There have even been reports that Dembele is considering suing the club.
In the latest twist in the tale, the former Borussia Dortmund man has failed to report to Barça's training ground before their trip to Alaves on Sunday evening. According to the club, this was due to a stomach bug, as they explained in a statement.
However, AS report that few at Barcelona believe Dembele is ill and he will now be hit with sanctions for his lack of professionalism.
Although Barça want him off the books, it is not clear whether the wideman will find a new club this month. Dembele would likely want to wait until the summer to leave, where he can command a higher signing-on fee and have a greater choice of clubs.
