Real Madrid made light work of Osasuna on Saturday, picking up a 4-2 victory to hand manager Carlo Ancelotti his 200th win in La Liga.

An end-to-end first half saw Vinicius Junior's early goal quickly cancelled out by Ante Budimir, before Dani Carvajal re-established Madrid's lead heading into the break.

Brahim Diaz and Vinicius were both on target in the second half to kill the game off, although Iker Munoz did fire home a stoppage-time consolation.

How the game unfolded

Osasuna started the game with real energy and positivity but their efforts were undone just three minutes in when Alejandro Catena was caught in possession by Vinicius. The Brazilian went racing through on goal and comfortably slotted into the bottom corner to put Madrid ahead.

Madrid's lead would last just three more minutes, however. Budimir steered home at the back post after a corner, firing through Carvajal's legs to tie things up.

Vinicius was denied one-on-one immediately after as Madrid started to find their groove and the second goal came from the unlikely source of Carvajal. The right-back ghosted in towards a Federico Valverde cross and poked beyond Sergio Herrera.

Osasuna had the odd sight of Madrid's goal but found extended spells of possession hard to come by, with Ancelotti's side holding on to the ball and sucking the energy out of the hosts.

Vinicius and Valverde both fizzed wide, while Andriy Lunin's gloves were left stinging after fierce strikes from Jose Arnaiz and Lucas Torro shortly before the interval.

The tempo dropped off for the start of the second half as a series of niggling fouls contributed to an increasingly feisty atmosphere, but Madrid would eventually get their third as Brahim strolled through the heart of the pitch unopposed, running nearly half the pitch before calmly slotting into the bottom corner.

The fourth came four minutes later as Vinicius collected Valverde's flick and went racing into the box, dinking around the goalkeeper and putting just enough pace on the ball to squeeze it over the line.

As the clock ticked on, Lucas Vazquez had a goal ruled out for offside, and Osasuna gave their impressive home fans something to smile about on the journey home as Munoz fired through Lunin's legs in the dying embers.

The game almost ended with an outrageous highlight as Arda Guler looked to catch Herrera out from the halfway line, but the Turkish teenager's audacious strike came cannoning back off the crossbar in the final action of the game.

Real Madrid player ratings (4-3-1-2)

GK: Andriy Lunin - 7/10 - Needed to make some smart saves late in the first half when Osasuna tried to fire their way back into the game.

RB: Dani Carvajal - 6/10 - Given infinite attacking freedom which saw him pop up with a goal. Not his strongest defensive performance, however, and was often bailed out by Valverde.

CB: Antonio Rudiger - 7/10 - Played with ferocity. Really powerful defending which appeared to unnerve Osasuna, but Rudiger was also involved with some delightful passing going forwards.

CB: Aurelien Tchouameni - 6/10 - A mixed performance. Didn't get a whole long wrong but left Rudiger fuming once or twice with a handful of questionable decisions. Very solid considering he's not actually a centre-back.

LB: Ferland Mendy - 5/10 - Offered nothing going forward and very little in defence either. A really underwhelming showing.

CM: Toni Kroos - 7/10 - Sat deep and pulled the strings with his passing. Involved in nearly everything for Madrid.

CM: Eduardo Camavinga - 7/10 - Joined Kroos in a deeper role to help out defensively but brought some much-needed energy to get the ball forward in midfield as well.

CM: Federico Valverde - 9/10 - Played as a midfielder, a winger, a right-back and pretty much everywhere Madrid needed him to be. Picked up three assists and was heavily involved in nearly everything.

AM: Brahim Diaz - 7/10 - Had a quiet first half but once again popped up with a big goal after the break.

ST: Rodrygo - 6/10 - Played in a wider role than usual and seemed slightly more comfortable. Some decent shots.

ST: Vinicius Junior - 8/10 - Took his goals really well and was an absolute nightmare for Osasuna's defence, but spoiled his performance with a foolish yellow card for dissent that will see him suspended for the next game against Athletic Club. So unnecessary.
