Sure, his trophy cabinet might be as bare as anything (unforgettable Audi Cup triumph aside) but Harry Kane's status as an elite footballer hasn't been in question for much of his senior career.

The Tottenham stalwart is a behemoth of a forward, one that can pretty much do it all, and it's nothing short of criminal that the Lilywhites' prolonged trophy drought has perpetuated in his presence. Still, Antonio Conte is hopeful that, together, the pair will eventually bring the shiny pots and pans that supporters are longing for in N17.

However, the tempestuous nature of the Italian combined with Kane's contract situation means that's far from a guarantee. The English forward has displayed loyalty rarely seen in the modern game to remain in north London for the entirety of his career thus far, and he'll surely go down as the greatest player in the club's history as he surpasses Jimmy Greaves' goalscoring record.

Adoration within the Spurs fanbase is unanimous, and those fortunate enough to see the master perform his art have sung his name in a chant that continues to stand the test of time.

'He's one of our own' lyrics

He's one of our own,
He's one of our owwwwn,
Harry Kane, he's one of our own.

Origins of Harry Kane's Tottenham chant

The chant belted out by Tottenham fans is a homage to Kane's status as a hometown hero. Spurs have struggled to nurture and harbour the development of academy players into the senior set-up since the turn of the Millennium, with Kane being a rare success story.

However, during the formative stages of his senior career, it looked like the English forward had little hope of making the grade at the highest level. He was far from highly-regarded as a teenager with former Spurs cult hero Rafael van der Vaart scathingly labelling Kane as "s***" when he started to train with the first team.

Several unsuccessful loan spells did little to aid Kane's cause before Tim Sherwood gave him his big opportunity at the end of the 2013/14 season. The improving forward impressed at the end of what was a turgid campaign for the Lilywhites before Mauricio Pochettino was drafted in to spearhead a new project in north London.

To the surprise of many supporters, it was one of their own that'd emerge as the protagonist during the most successful period in Tottenham's modern history. Now, it's hard to know when exactly the 'He's one of our own' chant was established by Spurs supporters, but it was undoubtedly popularised during Kane's breakthrough 2014/15 season.

He may have saved Poch's job with a last-minute free-kick at Aston Villa - arguably the most significant of the 31 goals he scored in all competitions that season.

The north London born, Tottenham-supporting forward was quickly emerging as one of the Premier League's best in his position and fans wanted everybody to know exactly where Kane came from.

He's always been one of their own. Tottenham born and bred.
