We’re at the half way point in Season 2 and Inter Nusantara were given a wake-up call by Paris St Denis, Naija found their shooting boots, as did South London and the battle of the US saw LA come out on top.
Round 11
In a round of big games, The Champions Paris St Denis travelled to league leaders Inter Nusantara and ground the Indonesian team into submission. After a goalless first half, Paris scored in the 50th, 83rd and 86th minutes. Florian Grava - who else? - was player of the match with a 90 rating, setting up the second goal and scoring a late freekick. Nusantara’s big name superstars Segara Biru and Bas Holsink were subbed off midway through the second half in performances that will concern anyone with them in their fantasy teams.
Club Sportivo Palermo went top with a point away at Bondi. It was a defensive grind and while Palermo’s keeper Alejandro Ortiz and young Captain and CB Salvador Broglia were named in the Team of the Week, their star studded forward line didn’t rank high.
South London United and Tokyo Youth Club have history, the last time Tokyo travelled to the UK, they were in a war with eight yellow cards handed out and their Captain Sasaki going off injured in the 2nd minute. South London won that game 3-0 and it was exactly the same scoreline this time. Tokyo’s academy promotion Ichiro Oba went off injured in the 13th minute, and thee South London players went in the ref’s book. Ruben Sinclair and Chris Bird each scored and set each other up and were the highest rated players with 78 and 72 respectively.
While Brasil Amazônia and Riyadh Stars played out a pretty flat 0-0 draw, FC Angelenos went one better, winning the US Derby over Manhattan FC 1-0 thanks to a goal from an unlikely scorer; Right Back, Dieter Lopez.
Naija United broke the shackles, getting a much needed 2-0 win over Bengaluru Phoenix thanks to goals from Captain Charles Ogude and young winger, Deji Akande. They still sit bottom of the table.
