Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed Victor Lindelof suffered a recurrence of the back injury he's been struggling with in recent weeks, and that's the reason he hobbled off in Manchester United's draw with Leicester.

The Sweden international admitted recently that he's been carrying a knock despite being a mainstay in the Red Devils starting XI this season.

Lindelof has only missed one league game for the club this campaign, playing the full 90 minutes in every other Premier League outing prior to the Boxing Day trip to the King Power Stadium.

The 26-year-old started at right-back against the Foxes in the absence of Aaron Wan-Bissaka, though he was withdrawn just past the hour mark having signalled to the bench that he was injured, and Solskjaer has confirmed the knock is a recurrence of the back issue he's been struggling with.

“It is his back again I think,” Solskjaer told the club's official website. “So we will just have to assess that one before Wolverhampton.

Despite potentially being without one of his first-choice centre-backs for the hectic Christmas schedule, Solskjaer remained upbeat regarding his defensive options and insisted his team would be fully focused on their upcoming league commitments.

“Then again, Eric [Bailly] is fit now, Axel [Tuanzebe] is fit, so of course we might have to look at that before Wolverhampton.

“We don't have time to worry about it. This time around, we have around 30 hours to prepare for this game and hopefully the players will use them wisely.”

The 2-2 Boxing Day draw with Brendan Rodgers' side sees United move onto 27 points for the season, just four points behind Premier League champions Liverpool who lead the way in first position.

United host Nuno Espirito Santo's Wolves at Old Trafford on Tuesday before yet another home game on Friday against Aston Villa.
