Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer admitted his side were not up to the task of beating RB Leipzig in the Champions League, but insisted that his players can't feel sorry for themselves for too long.

The Red Devils were dumped out after a 3-2 loss in Germany, once again leaving themselves a mountain to climb after going two goals down in the first 15 minutes.

Leipzig's third came courtesy of a catastrophic mix up between Harry Maguire and David de Gea, one that allowed Justin Kluivert to steal in and seal victory with 20 minutes to go - rendering late goals from Bruno Fernandes - from the penalty spot - and Paul Pogba irrelevant.

"We started too late. Great spirit and comeback again," Solskjaer remarked to BT Sport (quoted by BBC Sport). "It's different to the Premier League, you can't give a team a three-goal lead and expect to come back. We were unlucky towards the end and you almost thought it was in at the last minute there.

"Of course you can't say we were good enough, we weren't. In a difficult group of course, the big defeat for us was the one away to Istanbul - that's where we lost the points we should have had.

"Today we were close but we knew we had to defend crosses and balls into the box and we just couldn't clear them. As a footballer you can't feel sorry for yourself. You feel sorry for a few minutes tonight and then we focus on a massive game on Saturday."

Solskjaer also commented on Pogba's happiness at the club, less than 24 hours after his agent Mino Raiola told Italian press that he would be doing everything in his power to get his client away from Old Trafford this summer.

"You've got to ask Paul if he's happy or unhappy, I'm not going to speak for him," the Norwegian remarked. "Paul's focused on doing his best for the team when he's here, he's working hard in training and he just needs to focus on his performances."

Elsewhere in United's group, PSG's clash with Istanbul Baseksahir was called off after the fourth official was accused of racially abusing visiting assistant coach Pierre Webo; an incident that resulted in both sets of players walking off the field and failing to return.
