Maxi Moralex is back in Major League Soccer, re-signing with New York City FC after leaving Argentine side Racing Club earlier this summer.

Moralez has signed with the Blues through the 2024 MLS season, making a remarkable return to the club he shined at for several consecutive seasons.

The 36-year-old midfielder will hopefully bring much needed help as NYCFC currently sit in 13th place in the Eastern Conference standings with 26 points and are just four points off a playoff spot.

"We are thrilled to welcome Maxi back home to New York. We are obviously extremely familiar with the type of player and man Maxi is, and the impact Maxi has had on this club both on-and-off the field," New York City sporting director David Lee said in a release.

Moralez was part of the NYCFC squad that won the 2021 MLS Cup, and he delivered that year with three goals and 11 assists.

"After a stint in Argentina, Maxi wanted to return home, and we were very happy to facilitate a move back to New York. Maxi is a leader, knows the league well and thrives in the high-pressure moments of the biggest matches."

"We have a run of extremely important games ahead of us and adding a player of his caliber and experience will be invaluable for our roster," Lee said.

Moralez explained that he's more than excited to be back in New York City after spending a season with Racing Club in the Argentinian first division, where his career started back in 2005.

"I felt like it was a debt I had to repay, being able to fulfill my family's dream of playing for my boyhood club once again," Moralez said. "Now I am focused on adapting myself to the team as quickly as possible and helping Nick [Cushing, NYCFC boss] and his staff support and develop this young squad.

"To the fans, who have always had my back since day one, I can’t wait to be reunited."
