Nottingham Forest and a second Championship club have made official bids for United States international right-back Reggie Cannon, 90min understands, with the defender currently plying his trade in Portugal with Boavista.
The 23-year-old is a product of the famed FC Dallas academy, also responsible for the development of Juventus star Weston McKennie, Roma's Bryan Reynolds and Chris Richards of Bayern Munich among others.
Cannon made 73 appearances for the Texas side between 2017 and 2020. He then moved to Portugal with Boavista in 2020 for a reported $3.5m fee and made 32 appearances for the club last season - their first back in the top flight.
The defender was also part of Gregg Berhalter's USMNT squads that won Concacaf Nations League and Gold Cup titles at international level this summer. Thus far, Cannon has earned 22 senior caps for the Stars and Stripes, scoring once.
Speculation has been rife regarding a possible move to England for Cannon this summer. On Tuesday, a source close to the situation confirmed to 90min that Nottingham Forest have lodged a bid for the player, while another unnamed Championship club remained in touch and were weighing up an offer of their own for Cannon.
Forest's bid is understood to be an initial loan with an option to purchase. The unnamed club have also made a loan-to-buy bid, with the purchase option contingent on appearances and the club avoiding relegation from the Championship this season.
Cannon remains in training with Boavista, who have taken three points from their opening two Liga NOS games.
