Norwich have several first-teamers still sidelined with Christoph Zimmermann, Andrew Omobamidele and Milot Rashica expected to miss this one.

Grant Hanley was hauled off partway through his side's defeat to Man Utd at the weekend and could be absent again. Smith is also sweating over the fitness levels of Mathias Normann and Ben Gibson. Meanwhile, Christos Tzolis has Covid-19 and is still isolating.

Aston Villa team news

Steven Gerrard confirmed that a few Villa players returned positive coronavirus tests over the weekend, though he did not reveal any names.

Marvelous Nakamba is out too and is not expected to return before Christmas with a knee issue. The game also comes too soon for long-term absentees Leon Bailey and Bertrand Traore.

Norwich vs Aston Villa head-to-head record

Historically, things have been tight between the pair with Villa winning 34 meetings to Norwich's' 22, while 16 games have ended all square.

The west Midlanders also have the edge in the Premier League era, beating the Canaries nine times since 1992. Norwich, in contrast, have only mustered up four wins.

The pair's most recent meetings came in the 2019/20 season in which Villa did the double, winning 1-0 at home as well as subjecting Daniel Farke's side to a humiliating 5-1 defeat at Carrow Road.

Norwich vs Aston Villa score prediction

Provided the Villa squad members missing this one due to coronavirus are not key players, Gerrard's side should have enough to get one over their former manager.

Although Norwich have looked much better in recent weeks, there remains glaring deficiencies in what is surely the weakest squad in the Premier League.

Expect to see Gerrard get his second away victory since taking over at Villa Park.

Prediction: Norwich 1-2 Aston Villa
