The Red Devils are seemingly searching for alternatives to priority target Jadon Sancho this summer, with discussions for the English star currently at an impasse, and Barcelona's Dembele was reportedly identified as an option.
Reports emerged in August that 'informal talks' over the Frenchman had taken place between the two clubs, but Fabrizio Romano understands that this is false, with both parties denying that any talks have ever taken place.
Romano states that no bid has arrived from United, while Dembele is said to be keen on staying in Catalonia and proving his worth after enduring an injury-ravaged spell in Spain ever since he moved from Dortmund in a £124m deal three years ago.
The 23-year-old has looked bright in pre-season and there's no doubting that, if he can stay fit, it'll be a huge boost for new boss Ronald Koeman who is determined to return Dembele back to his scintillating best.
Nevertheless, it appears that United will have to overlook Dembele in their hunt for a Sancho alternative.
Serie A pair Ivan Perisic and Douglas Costa have both been linked with a move to Old Trafford, as has Champions League final hero Kingsley Coman. The club were also said to be interested in new Tottenham man Gareth Bale before opting against the move.
90min exclusively revealed last week that the Red Devils had been offered the chance to sign Watford winger Ismaila Sarr. Time will tell whether United to take such opportunity, although they're said to be monitoring the situation and mulling over an offer.
Elsewhere, Porto left-back Alex Telles is 'hopeful' of completing his move to United this week in a deal which could be worth €25m. They aren't, however, expected to sign a centre-back this summer. Sancho - or an alternative - along with a left-back - set to be Telles - appear United's two priorities.
