Nicolas Larcamon reveals reason behind Puebla exit

Nicolas Larcamon explained his decision to part ways with Liga MX’s Puebla, revealing it had nothing to do with the head coach vacancy over at Tigres UANL. 

Larcamon announced his shocking resignation from Puebla on November 10, just a few months after signing a contract renewal. 

He departed after leading the club for two years, managing a record of 27W-21L-32D in 80 Liga MX games total. During the 2022 Liga MX Apertura, the head coach inspired Puebla to eighth on the table and the Liguilla quarter-finals before falling to Club America. 

“The truth is that the decision is mine, obviously that the perspectives of what is coming for the team at all levels are taken into account a little, which is going to be very challenging,” he said to TUDN.

”That is why I understood it very fair to give the place to someone with renewed energy, with maximum motivation, the institution deserves it. There were four tournaments of great intensity, demands, where we were always at our best, and the decision had more to do with these issues. There was a lot of speculation, it coincided with Piojo in Tigres, but it has nothing to do with it. it was a decision made days before and we were only in negotiations.”

The former coach failed to lift a trophy in four tournaments with Puebla, prompting him to give way for a leader. Beyond Puebla, Larcamon has not yet ruled out the possibility of coaching another club in Liga MX. 

“It is logical [to want to stay in Mexico], this is a league of a very high level…I knew how to understand it. But it's how they talk about when you leave and not when you arrive,” he said.

“We are very calm with what we were able to do, yes, without a doubt it has been a spectacular process, it is a league that is a privilege to be in, protagonists in it and hopefully what comes in the future is linked to the Mexican league. But this is dynamic, I don't want to be tied to this statement and then show up in another league.”

Several changes are bound to be made this offseason, with Tigres and Puebla looking for a new coach. The 2023 Liga MX Clausura kicks off on January 6, giving teams plenty of time to scout new figures.
