After grinding out what could prove to be an important Champions League point at San Siro. the big-hitters continue to arrive for Newcastle United as they welcome Paris Saint-Germain to St. James' Park on Wednesday night.

Placed into the most daunting of groups to celebrate their return to Europe's top table, Newcastle's campaign started with a stalemate in Milan as a fine Nick Pope performance ensured the Magpies' resilience was rewarded.

However, an even tougher test now beckons for Eddie Howe's side, who are unbeaten in five games, as Kylian Mbappe and PSG come to town. While the French outfit have endured a fairly mixed start to Luis Enrique's reign, their potential was teased in their recent victories over Borussia Dortmund and Marseille.

An electric atmosphere is expected at St. James' for this huge occasion, and Howe will hope the fervent home support can will his side to a famous victory.

Newcastle were dealt a pretty significant injury blow last week as it was revealed that an ankle injury will keep summer signing Harvey Barnes sidelined until November. Sven Botman is also unlikely to feature.

A hamstring injury renders Joe Willock a doubt for Wednesday's game, and Joelinton looks likely to join him on the sidelines with a similar issue. Emil Krafth is out with a knee problem.

The visitors will be without several players for their trip to Tyneside.

Marco Asensio remains out with a foot issue, while a severe hamstring injury will rule Nuno Mendes out of action until the start of 2024. Goalkeepers Sergio Rico and Keylor Navas are also unlikely to make Enrique's matchday squad.

Enrique has switched to a 3-4-3 in recent weeks, and we should see that system deployed again at St. James' Park.

PSG predicted lineup vs Newcastle

PSG predicted lineup vs Newcastle (3-4-3): Donnarumma; Skriniar, Marquinhos, Hernandez; Hakimi; Ugarte, Vitinha, Barcola; Dembele, Ramos, Mbappe.

Newcastle vs PSG score prediction

The injury to Botman is a particular concern for Wednesday's game against a PSG attack that would ignite fright into even the stoutest of defences.

While Les Parisiens are yet to string together a succession of convincing performances under Enrique, their talent is evident, but a raucous St. James' will make life incredibly tough for them. Newcastle's press will be crucial on Wednesday given PSG's technical proficiency and Enrique's ability to coach build-up play. They'll have to be almost perfect out of possession to ensure Mbappe and company don't run riot.

Nevertheless, this has all the makings of a thriller, with Newcastle earning another important point at the start of their group campaign.

Prediction: Newcastle 2-2 PSG
