Newcastle are continuing to hold talks with Manchester United over a deal for goalkeeper Dean Henderson.

The Magpies have been long-term admirers of the 25-year-old, who has been unable to dislodge David de Gea as United's number one goalkeeper last season despite signing a new long-term contract in 2020.

Henderson has made it clear that he wants to play regular first-team football and 90min reported in May that talks were being held between Newcastle and Man Utd for a player the Magpies initially wanted to sign in January.

Talks are continuing between the two clubs, 90min understands, with an agreement over whether it will be a loan deal or permanent move still yet to be decided.

Listen now to 90min's brand new podcast, Talking Transfers, with Scott SaundersGraeme Bailey & Toby Cudworth. This week they discuss whether Sadio Mane will leave Liverpool for Bayern Munich, Manchester United's pursuit of Benfica striker Darwin Nunez, Newcastle's plans for Moussa Diaby and Sven Botman & Jorginho's future at Chelsea.

Henderson has already agreed personal terms with Newcastle and is waiting for the two clubs to decide the make up of a deal - Eddie Howe's side are willing to use up a domestic loan slot if necessary whereas Man Utd would prefer a permanent deal.

If Newcastle are to successfully buy Henderson, it's likely they will try to negotiate a fee under £20m, although it's unclear how highly the Red Devils value the England international given he has a contract until 2025.

Newcastle are also close to finalising the signing of Reims' teenage sensation Hugo Ekitike after months of back and forth negotiations. 90min understands a €31m (£26.4m) deal is in place after seeing off interest from the likes of Borussia Dortmund and Bayer Leverkusen.
