The New York Red Bulls have signed defender Sean Nealis to a new three-year contract, the club announced Thursday.

Nealis' new deal runs through the 2026 MLS season with a club option for an additional year.

“We are pleased to sign Sean to a new contract with our club,” Red Bulls sporting director Denis Hamlett said. “He has had a very strong year and we are pleased to have him help us strengthen our backline for many years to come.”

Nealis has enjoyed a positive 2022 campaign, starting 32 of RBNY's 33 regular season games so far and ranking first among his teammates for recoveries (398), interceptions (135), and aerial duels won (127).

The 25-year-old center-back has played a key role in helping the Red Bulls qualify for the MLS Cup Playoffs for the 13th season in a row.

“I am very happy to keep Sean at the club,” said head coach Gerhard Struber. “He has turned into a great leader for our team, and we are excited to see him continue to work hard and help our club accomplish its goals.”

The Red Bulls are preparing to face Charlotte FC in their final match of the regular season on Sunday before heading into yet another Playoffs campaign.
