The New York Red Bulls have re-signed defender Kyle Duncan on a season-long loan from KV Oostende with a purchase option.

The right back joined Oostende in January 2022 on a free transfer, and made seven league appearances for the Belgian team before a loan move back to the Red Bulls in August.

"We are very excited to have Kyle [Duncan] back at the club following his loan spell at the end of last season," Red Bulls sporting director Denis Hamlett said in a statement. "He knows the club very well and has had much success here, and we are looking forward to see him continue that this season."

After working his way through the Red Bulls academy, the right-back signed a first team contract in 2018. Duncan managed five goals and 11 assists in 81 appearances for the Red Bulls across five seasons before seeing stints abroad.

"Kyle [Duncan] has shown his qualities over the last couple years with us and has a lot of experience in MLS,” RBNY head coach Gerhard Struber said in a release. “We are happy to have him back with us.”

The defender is expected to start at right-back again in 2023 under head coach Gerhard Struber, after kicking off six of the nine games he appeared in upon his return to the Red Bulls last year. He helped the team to fourth place on the Eastern Conference table, with 53 points in 34 games to make the playoffs.

But the team’s postseason run was short lived, losing 2-1 to FC Cincinnati in the first round.

The team returns to the pitch on February 25 when visiting Orlando City at Exploria Stadium.
