The Netherlands were one of just three teams in the competition to take maximum points from the group stages and their reward for cruising through to the next round is a clash with the Czech Republic on Sunday.

The Dutch have scored freely so far but in this weekend's opponents they'll face a stubborn side with the ability to cause problems of their own in the attacking third. Going into the tournament, the level of expectation around Frank de Boer's side was unusually low.

Manager De Boer has no fitness concerns heading into the Netherlands' round of 16 tie with the Czech Republic. Marten de Roon was left out against North Macedonia and replaced by Ryan Gravenberch, but the experienced Atalanta man is expected to return to the starting XI.

Wout Weghorst is also in contention to return to the side after he was replaced by Donyell Malen for the final group game.

Jaroslav Silhavy's men will be without Jan Boril who is suspended after picking up two yellow cards in the group stage, meaning Ales Mateju could come into the starting XI.

Patrick Schick will lead the line despite struggling with a facial injury he picked up in the game against Croatia at Hampden Park.

Netherlands vs Czech Republic predicted lineups

Netherlands: Stekelenburg; De Vrij, De Ligt, Blind; Dumfries, De Roon, De Jong, Van Aanholt, Wijnaldum; Weghorst, Depay.

Our 21 - One to Watch

While the Netherlands' opening clash with Ukraine was good end to end fun, the amount of chances has diminished since Matthijs de Ligt's return to the side. The Juventus star has helped the Oranje keep two clean sheets and his clash with Schick should be fascinating.

Netherlands vs Czech Republic head to head record

These two nations have met on 11 previous occasions, with the first encounter taking place in November 1994 and the last in October 2015. Czech Republic have had the better of this fixture, winning five, drawing three and losing just three times.

Netherlands vs Czech Republic prediction

The Dutch have played free-flowing attacking football so far, whereas their opponents have shown themselves to be a little more pragmatic in their approach. You can expect De Boer's side to have most of the ball and they're bound to create chances.

They'll have to be aware of the Czech Republic's threat on the counter-attack, in particular that posed by the clinical Schick. Netherlands should have too much for their opponents but they'll need to be wary of a dangerous opponent.

Prediction: Netherlands 2-0 Czech Republic
