Nasser Al-Khelaifi not happy with Mauricio Pochettino's Man Utd desire

Paris Saint Germain chairman Nasser Al-Khelaifi is less than pleased with Mauricio Pochettino's desire to land the Manchester United manager's job, 90min has been told.

Pochettino's representatives have been touching base with United long before Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was sacked at the weekend following their humiliating 4-1 loss at Watford.

As 90min revealed soon after, United quickly began preparing for life after the Norwegian and their early planning had seen Pochettino's name emerge as one of their preferred options, with Sir Alex Ferguson a huge fan of the Argentine.

Pochettino has made it clear that he would like to take the job and his representatives have told United that he would be willing to move before the end of the season.

United announced when Solskjaer left that they would be appointing an interim manager to take them to the end of the season - but sources have confirmed that such a declaration would not stop them from making a permanent appointment if the right candidate emerged.

Pochettino is not fully settled at PSG and his relationship with sporting director Leonardo has been 'strained' for a number of months. He looked closely at returning to Tottenham in the summer as a result of his worries about his job in the French capital.

PSG chairman Al-Khelaifi is aware that his manager is prepared to leave - if United were to make the all important approach - but sources have told 90min that he is far from happy with the situation.

Al-Khelaifi would demand maximum compensation from United, despite the fact he does look to have a replacement already in mind in the shape of Zinedine Zidane - which could very well help Pochettino get his move to Manchester sealed.

Zidane is available and was briefly linked to United, but it became clear he and his family were not keen on a move to Manchester and would instead favour a switch to Paris.

Zidane's record of delivering European titles in Madrid is a huge plus point for Al-Khelaifi and there is understood to have been initial contact, as the Pochettino deal gathers pace.

As revealed earlier this week, Pochettino and Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers have emerged as the leading candidates, with the club's sizeable hierarchy somewhat split on who would be the best appointment.

Sources have confirmed that although both are seen as the 'right fit', Pochettino is emerging as the preferred option.
