Nashville SC currently sit in third place on the Eastern Conference table, tied in points with second-place side Philadelphia Union at 53. While the club is 20 points back of first place New England Revolution, the team can still move up in the standings.

Nashville’s Hany Mukhtar is aiming for the MLS MVP as the season winds to a close.

“If I’m not mistaken, the criteria for an MVP is somebody who not only scores goals, but can be maybe encapsulated as the talisman for their group, somebody that leads that group,” said head coach Chris Smith. “I think he’s shown as many qualities or more than anyone this year who’s in form. There are some guys that have not played the whole season but are in very, very good teams.

The Red Bulls control their fate on Decision Day this year.

New York Red Bulls have had a strong stretch this fall, with just one loss since September 17th. Now, they sit in seventh place on the Eastern Conference table with the possibility to clinch a playoff spot should they earn a win or draw in Tennessee this weekend.

A loss would not eliminate RBNY, but it would make things much more difficult. It would require either a loss or draw for CF Montreal against Orlando City, D.C. United to lose or tie with Toronto FC and to keep a larger goal differential than Columbus Crew. The Red Bulls currently have a +6 goal differential to the Crew’s -1.

Predicted lineups

Nashville: Willis; Romney, Zimmerman, Maher, Lovitz, Godoy; Leal, Anunga, Johnston; Mukhtar, Sapong

New York Red Bulls: Coronel; Nealis, Reyes, Edwards, Gutman; Yearwood, Davis, Duncan, Clark; Casseres, Fabio

Nashville SC vs New York Red Bulls head to head record

Nashville SC and New York Red Bulls have only met once before, with the Red Bulls winning 2-0 at Red Bull Arena on June 18th, 2021. Fabio and Kyle Duncan scored for New York in the match in the team’s first competition after nearly a month off due to the international break.

Nashville SC vs New York Red Bulls score prediction

Nashville SC have a pension for draws, and for New York Red Bulls, that is all that they need. Just one point for RBNY is enough to clinch a playoff spot without worrying about the results of other teams. The Red Bulls have been red hot down the stretch of the season, and in their most important match of the season, the team needs to keep that momentum going in order to keep their 11-year playoff streak alive. It will require an all-out effort to secure points against a strong Nashville side.

Prediction: Nashville SC 1-1 New York Red Bulls
