Nashville SC have acquired forward Fafa Picault in a trade with the Houston Dynamo, the clubs announced Wednesday.

The Dynamo will receive $50k General Allocation Money (GAM) in each of the next two years, with up to $150k to be paid in addition in 2024 if certain performance metrics are hit.

“We are making significant changes to the staff and roster this offseason as we look to field a more competitive team in 2023,” Dynamo general manager Pat Onstad said in a club press release. “After meeting with Fafa at the end of the season, we decided that this move made sense for all parties. We appreciate everything Fafa has done for the club and we wish him the best moving forward.”

Nashville will now become Picault's fourth MLS team having previously represented the Philadelphia Union, FC Dallas, and the Dynamo. The 31-year-old has 42 goals and 19 primary assists to his name in 168 regular season appearances to date, while he also has a goal and an assist in five MLS Cup Playoffs matches.

The two-time United States international is the first departure of the Ben Olsen era in Houston and leaves the club after registering seven goals and two assists in 30 appearances last season.

With Nashville, Picault - who has played for the likes of St. Pauli and Cagliari in Europe - will look to help Gary Smith's side qualify for the MLS Cup Playoffs for a fourth consecutive campaign.
