Juventus' winless start to the new Serie A season continued on Saturday night, as they slipped to a disappointing 2-1 defeat to SSC Napoli at Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.

The Partenopei started the game on top, but they fell behind on 11 minutes, when Alvaro Morata robbed Kostas Manolas in possession, raced in on goal and coolly slotted the ball beyond David Ospina.

Both teams struggled to create clear-cut chances for the rest of the half, and Juve went into the break ahead in Naples. Napoli needed only ten minutes of the second half to equalise however, although they were offered a helping hand by Wojciech Szczesny.

The Juve goalkeeper made a meal of Lorenzo Insigne's curling shot, palming the ball into the path of Matteo Politano, who slotted home calmly. There was nothing calm about Stadio Diego Armando Maradona with five minutes to play though, after Moise Kean inexplicably headed a corner towards his own goal.

Szczesny did excellently to claw the ball away from the line, but Kalidou Koulibaly was on hand to tap home on the goal line and send the home supporters wild. Napoli saw out the game with ease to clinch the three points, and condemn Massimiliano Allegri to another defeat as Juve boss.

NAPOLI PLAYER RATINGS

1. Goalkeeper & defenders

David Ospina (GK) - 7/10 - Could only hope and pray when Morata charged in on goal. No stopping the Spaniard on that occasion. Brave save to dive at Kulusevski's feet.

Giovanni Di Loreno (RB) - 7/10 - Watched on in horror as Manolas surrendered possession from his throw. He clearly called for the Greek to hoof it, in fairness. Flashed a dangerous ball across the six-yard box, but no one was there to profit.

Kostas Manolas (CB) - 5/10 - Oh, Kostas. An absolute rookie error to gift Juve the lead, losing possession on the edge of his own box. You can't be doing that against this lot. Recovered, but made his teammates' job 100x more complicated.

Kalidou Koulibaly (CB) - 8/10 -
Had a crack at goal but straight at Szczesny. Right place at the right time to turn the ball over the line for the winner. A special moment.

Mario Rui (LB) - 7/10 -
Looked good going forward, but his final ball often let him down. Ammunition for the forwards was in low supply.

2. Midfielders

Fabian Ruiz (CM) - 7/10 - Integral in the build-up to the equaliser, feeding Insigne from the byline. Saw a rasping drive at goal flash just over the bar. Quality.

Andre Zambo-Anguissa (CM) - 8/10 - Slotted into the midfield and didn't look out of place in the tactical battle that is Serie A. So strong and fearless in the tackle. A warrior.

Eljif Elmas (CM) - 6/10 - Went flying through the back of Kulusevski and picked up a yellow card. Tackles from that angle are always a risk.

3. Forwards

Matteo Politano (RW) - 7/10 - Always looked to work the ball onto his left foot - a bit too predictable. Quickest and first alive to the loose ball in the box, making no mistake - with his right foot, too.

Victor Osimhen (ST) - 7/10 - Visibly rattled by his physical battles with Chiellini and Bonucci, who used all their combined experience against him. Didn't boil over though, and ended up on the winning side.

Lorenzo Insigne (LW) - 7/10 - Frustrating first half, unable to beat the Juve back line. Got the assist for the equaliser by creating Szczesny's mess with a finessed effort.

5. Goalkeeper & defenders

Wojciech Szczesny (GK) - 5/10 - Disastrous attempt to palm Insigne's curler to safety, instead gifting the ball to Politano. Unfortunate that Kean forced him into a brilliant save, which ultimately led to conceding the winner.

Mattia De Sciglio (RB) - 6/10 - Got turned inside out by Rui in the first half, but fortunately the full-back's cross was poor. Had a tough afternoon against the tricky Insigne.

Leonardo Bonucci (CB) - 5/10 -
Looked to have picked up a minor muscle injury in the first half which left him moving gingerly. Far from his best, yet again.

Giorgio Chiellini (CB) - 6/10 - Pulled off some lovely incisive vertical passes to split Napoli's rearguard or break the lines. Couldn't marshal the back line well enough to defend the corner.

Luca Pellegrini (LB) - 7/10 -
A rare start, but took his chance. Stuck to Politano, and followed the winger as he consistently cut inside looking to fire in a shot. Stuck a few blocks in. Subbed as Juve changed shape.

6. Midfielders

Weston McKennie (CM) - 5/10 - Caused a lot of problems with his spontaneous bursts between the lines and in behind the Napoli defence. Extremely poor in the second period.

Manuel Locatelli (CM) - 6/10 - Dictated play in the middle, and every spell of possession flowed through him. Faded in the second half as Juve lost control of the game.

Adrien Rabiot (CM) - 5/10 - Important to Juventus' defensive shape, stopping the likes of Fabian from progressing and cut off supply to Osimhen. Ruined his good work by falling asleep in the box and letting Politano slot home. When will he learn?

7. Forwards

Federico Bernardeschi (RW) - 4/10 - Offers so, so, so little to the team in every department. How long will they stick with him?

Alvaro Morata (ST) - 6/10 - Brilliant pressing, awareness and ice-cold blood to pinch possession and clip the ball beyond Ospina. Limited to very few chances from then on. Peripheral.

Dejan Kulusevski (LW) - 5/10 - Nice one-two with Morata to test Ospina, but the flag went up for offside. Cut a frustrated figure and felt he was fouled often, but the referee was having none of it.

8. Substitutes
