Atletico Madrid striker Moussa Dembele fainted during a training session on Tuesday due to a drop in blood pressure.

The Frenchman has since recovered and felt well enough to drive himself home from the club's training facility later in the day. Dembele has only been at Atletico for a few months, joining on loan from Lyon with an option to buy in January.

The incident occurred during a training session organised for players not called up for international duty. Part way through the workout, Dembele was filmed keeling over and then falling to the ground by the DirectoGol cameras. The 24-year-old was then moved into the recovery position before receiving treatment.

Soon after, Atletico released the following statement, via AS: "Moussa Dembélé suffered a drop in blood pressure and retired from the training session. The player is now subject to observation and his evolution will be closely monitored."

Dembele seemed in high spirits when he left the training ground later in the day, smiling and waving from his car.

Atletico have been enjoying an incredible domestic season and currently top La Liga. They are currently four points ahead of second-placed Barcelona and six clear of city rivals Real Madrid in third. Dembele has played a minimal part in this success so far, featuring four times in all competitions since making the move to Los Rojiblancos.

His most recent game was against Chelsea in the Champions League round of 16 second leg, where his side crashed out of the competition courtesy of a 2-0 defeat.

Unless he steps up his involvement in the games that remain this season, it seems unlikely that Atletico will make his loan move permanent in the summer. To do this, it is thought they would have to pay in the region of £30m.
