MLS Week 6 best players - ranked

Week 6 of the 2022 MLS season was another lit up by a bunch of standout individual performances.

Deadly goalscorers, rock-solid center-backs, maverick midfielders; they were all on show this weekend. Read on for our top five players of the week to see who did it best:

5. Jeremy Ebobisse (San Jose Earthquakes)

“I think it’s tough to get too high on scoring in a defeat because ultimately it’s a defeat. It doesn’t advance the team’s goals," said Jeremy Ebobisse after netting a brace in the San Jose Earthquakes' 3-2 defeat to the Houston Dynamo.

Ebobisse has a point, the Quakes are no better off in the table despite the former Timbers striker extending his run to three goals in his last two games.

But if Matias Almeyda can sort out that defense (we know that's a big if), they have a striker who can carry them up the table. Ebobisse showed supreme intelligence and movement to pick up dangerous spaces and was clinical in the box. And he can stretch a defense like no other Quakes player can.

Quakes fans have something to cling to in Ebobisse, at least.

4. Rudy Camacho (CF Montreal)

Rudy Camacho's day didn't get off to the best start against the Red Bulls, deflecting Omir Fernandez's shot into the back of his own net after just 14 minutes. But boy did he play his part in turning things around for CF Montreal.

The French center-back found space inside the RBNY box to head home the equalizer in the 71st minute, while it was his clearance that forced the mistake for Romell Quioto's late winner.

That was just one of seven clearances on the day for Camacho, who also ended the match with 10 recoveries, three interceptions, one tackle, and all six of his aerial duels won. He recovered quickly to produce a ruthlessly effective performance at both ends of the pitch.

3. Jesus Ferreira (FC Dallas)

FC Dallas needed something big after only making it to half-time level against the Colorado Rapids thanks to a Brandon Servania golazo in added time. The Rapids had totally dominated the early proceedings and it wasn't looking good.

Thankfully, Nico Estevez has one of the most in-form American strikers right now on his books in Jesus Ferreira.

The 21-year-old produced a stunning piece of instinctive finishing on the turn to equalize in the 50th minute, then beat the offside trap and rounded Will Yarbrough to fire into an open net in the 89th, sealing another precious Dallas victory.

Ferreira's movement and energy caused problems for Colorado all night, and they won't be his last victims in this form.

2. Sebastian Ferreira (Houston Dynamo)

It's taken some time for Sebastian Ferreira to get going, but he really did the damage for the Dynamo on Saturday.

The Paraguayan forward got free in the box to finish a great corner routine inside eight minutes. Then, after the Dynamo battled back from 2-1 down to retake the lead, he linked up with strike partner Fafa Picault to finish the job on 68.

There's been far more to like about the Dynamo so far this year, but there's still been a little bit of a spark missing. Until now...

"I think Sebas is a big part of this puzzle in Houston and for him to get the brace today was great,” head coach Paulo Nagamura said after the match.

1. Leonardo Campana (Inter Miami)

Prior to Saturday's home win over the New England Revolution, Inter Miami had taken one point from five games, lost their last four, and scored just one non-penalty goal all season.

Well, Phil Neville's side certainly changed that picture on Saturday, in no small way thanks to Leonardo Campana.

The Wolves loanee helped himself to a hat-trick that will hopefully provide a springboard to his Inter Miami spell. For good measure, it was a perfect hat-trick too, with his first a header, second a left-footed effort, and third a right-footer after a gift from Revs goalkeeper Brad Knighton.

Campana's movement was excellent on Saturday, allowing him to find space inside the Revs box, and he battled well against a physical New England defense. Some would even say he offered everything Gonzalo Higuain doesn't...
