MLS transfer roundup: Nashville SC sign Amar Sejdic, FC Cincinnati add Pavel Bucha to midfield

Clubs around Major League Soccer continue to add to their rosters with the 2024 campaign less than two weeks away.

Two clubs from both conferences have made additions to their backlines by bringing in experienced defenders, while a former CF Montreal and Atlanta United player has joined Nashville SC.

Here's all the latest MLS transfer news you may have missed.


1. Amar Sejdic joins Nashville SC from Atlanta United

Nashville SC have signed free-agent midfielder Amar Sejdic to a to a one-year contract through the 2024 season with an option for 2025.

Sejdic arrives at GEODIS Park having spent the last three seasons with rivals Atlanta United. Prior to his time with the Five Stripes, Sejdic suited up for Canadian outfit CF Montreal.

"Amar is a connector in midfield who is outstanding in possession and balances the other central players on our roster really well," Nashville general manager Mike Jacobs said in a release. 

"His mentality on the field as well as in the locker room makes him a really strong fit for our group."

The 27-year-old has managed 78 league appearances and lifted the 2019 Canadian Championship with Montreal.

2. FC Cincinnati sign Pavel Bucha from Viktoria Plzen

FC Cincinnati have secured the signing of midfielder Pavel Bucha from Viktoria Plzen on a three-year deal through the 2026 season with an option for 2027.

The 25-year-old departs his native Czech Republic after managing 161 appearances for Viktoria, scoring 28 goals in the process. Bucha also suited up for Mlada Boleslav and Slavia Prague in the Czech top flight.

"We’re thrilled to welcome Pavel to the club," Cincinnati general manager Chris Albright said in a statement.

"His understanding of the game, ability to cover ground, and experience at the top levels of European soccer make him a valuable addition. He’s also an exceptional teammate who will fit seamlessly into the group."

3. Orlando City add to defense with David Brekalo signing

Orlando City have signed center-back David Brekalo from Norwegian outfit Viking through the 2027 campaign with an option for 2028.

Brekalo makes the switch to Major League Soccer after spending his entire professional career thus far in Europe with NK Bravo in his native Slovenia and Viking. The 25-year-old registered 112 appearances for Bravo before joining Viking in August 2021, where he suited up 74 times.

"We're very excited to be able to bring David to Orlando and to have him join us this year," Orlando executive vice president of soccer operations and general manager Luiz Muzzi said in a release.

"His defensive intelligence and technical abilities are both something that we feel will bolster our back line and set us up for further success this season."

4. San Jose Earthquakes sign Portuguese center-back Bruno Wilson

San Jose Earthquakes have brought in a new center-back, signing Bruno Wilson from Liga Portugal outfit Vizela on a deal through the 2025 campaign with an option for 2026.

Prior to his time with Vizela, Wilson suited up for the likes of Braga, Tondela and also rose through the ranks with Sporting CP's academy.

"We're happy to sign Bruno, who brings center back experience abroad from one of the top leagues in Europe," San Jose general manager Chris Leitch said in a release.

"We're confident that adding him to our back line will contribute to our continued defensive success."
