Derby della Madonnina is arguably the greatest rivalry in European football.

The clash consists of two historic and modern-day heavyweights doing battle in one of the grandest venues that our sport has to offer: San Siro.

Milan and Internazionale are masters of the game, and have both often occupied the summit of Italian and European calcio, winning the Serie A title 36 times between them - that's 18 each, as it happens.

The stock of I Rossoneri and I Nerazzurri may have dropped in recent years, but the duo are on the rise once again and are ready to reclaim the throne from current holders Juventus.

It's been a long time since Milan and Inter have held the top two spots in the table, but ten games into the 2020/21 campaign, and here we stand.

The Derby di Milano, as it's also known, has seen some of our game's greatest stars grace its turf, with a handful even performing the deadly deed of switching allegiance throughout their career. So, in homage to the clubs' joint-title challenge this year, 90min has compiled a list of the greatest scorers in this derby. Enjoy.

23. Clarence Seedorf - Inter & Milan (4 Goals)

Legendary midfielder Clarence Seedorf is the first of a minority to have worn both the red and black and blue and black of the two rivals. He scored one of his greatest ever goals in this fixture with a rocket from 35 yards while donning the colours of I Rossoneri.

22. Dejan Stankovic - Inter (4 Goals)

A scorer of absolute belters from distance, Dejan Stankovic did exactly that for Inter against their bitter rivals in 2009, along with three others during his nine years at the club.

21. Filippo Inzaghi - Milan (4 Goals)

Not a scorer of great goals, but a great scorer of goals, Filippo Inzaghi somehow managed only four against Inter in his 11 years in red and black.

20. Ronaldo - Inter & Milan (5 Goals)

The genius Ronaldo featured for both the Milanese clubs during his career, although he undoubtedly played his best football at Inter. Possibly the very, very best to star in this fixture.

What a baller. Kaka is remembered best for his years in Serie A, where he grew to become a deserved Ballon d'Or winner. He managed five goals against I Nerazzurri in his six years at the club.

Hated, adored, but never ignored - not necessarily in that order. Mauro Icardi scored five goals against Milan, including a super hat-trick in 2017, and a last-minute winner a year later. Now not particularly welcome in his former home.

17. Diego Milito - Inter (6 Goals)

A proper Argentinian club legend. Diego Milito was a warrior at Inter, scoring six goals in this fixture, while also completing an unforgettable treble. He got a brace in the Champions League final, too. One of their own.

16. Pietro Serantoni - Inter (6 Goals)

A title winner with Inter back in 1930, Pietro Serantoni made his mark on the city with a half-dozen strikes against I Rossoneri.

15. Sandro Mazzola - Inter (6 Goals)

A one-club man, Sandro Mazzola will go down in Inter's history as one of their most loyal servants. Wonderful moustache, too.

14. Attilio Demaria - Inter (6 Goals)

Attilio Demaria won a runners-up medal in the 1930 World Cup with Argentina, before deciding he had a better chance of winning the trophy with Italy in 1934 - and he did. Imagine if Lionel Messi landed upon that decision.

13. Aldo Cevenini - Inter & Milan (6 Goals)

A man who played for both Milan and Inter during his career, Aldo Cevenini flicked between the two clubs on five occasions. Simpler times.

12. Aldo Boffi - Milan (6 Goals)

Aldo Boffi spent the majority of his playing career at Milan, where he scored 109 goals in 163 league games. Six of those came against the old enemy.

11. Louis Van Hege - Milan (7 Goals)

A man of many talents, Louis van Hege scored seven goals in the derby, and also competed in the bobsleigh event in the 1932 Winter Olympics.

Ice in his veins.

10. Benito Lorenzi - Inter (7 Goals)

Benito Lorenzi also secured seven goals in this fixture, over the course of his 11 years as Inter's star striker.

9. Roberto Boninsegna - Inter (7 Goals)

Roberto Boninsegna played alongside the aforementioned Mazzola for I Nerazzurri, but pipped him in this list of legends. Wearer of some stunning jerseys.

8. Alessandro Altobelli - Inter (7 Goals)

Nicknamed 'Spillo' (needle) for his slender physique, Alessandro Altobelli threaded seven goals past I Rossoneri.

Legendary status sewn up, etc.

7. José Altafini - Milan (7 Goals)

What do Milan, Juventus, Napoli, Italy and Brazil all have in common? Jose Altafini played for all of them. In elite company.

6. Zlatan Ibrahimovic - Inter & Milan (9 Goals)

Nine and not out for Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

The Swede may be approaching his 40th birthday, but he'll still fancy his chances at climbing to the top of this list. Stranger things have happened...

5. Enrico Candiani - Inter & Milan (10 Goals)

Enrico Candiani started and played most of his career at Inter, but did enjoy one season with Milan. He was clearly a lover of this derby, hitting double figures.

4. István Nyers - Inter (11 Goals)

Istvan Nyers is a legend of the game in his native country of Hungary, and he is held in equal regard among Inter supporters. 11 goals in the Derby di Milano certainly helped protect his legacy.

3. Gunnar Nordahl - Milan (11 Goals)

Milan's all-time record goalscorer, the winner of the most capocannoniere awards in Serie A history (five) and a two-time scudetto winner. Need we say more?

2. Giuseppe Meazza - Inter & Milan (13 Goals)

I mean, San Siro isn't the only name for this shared stadium, is it? Stadio Giuseppe Meazza is known as that for one reason - because of the Inter legend himself. Meazza, scorer of 12 goals for Inter in this tie, also snatched one in his two-year spell at rivals Milan. An icon of the city.

1. Andriy Shevchenko - Milan (14 Goals)

And now for number one. Andriy Shevchenko was genuinely unstoppable during his time in Serie A, writing his name into the football history books forever. He smashed 14 goals against I Nerazzurri in his seven years with I Rossoneri, before heading off to Chelsea in 2006.

He could have been miles clear on this list if he'd stuck around another year or two.
