The Mexican national team will officially start their 'Diego Cocca' era with an away match against Suriname. In what was a disappointing showing at the FIFA World Cup, Mexico is now in a rebuild of sorts.

Mexico team news

The biggest question heading into the Nations League for Mexico is who will step up and be the leader in the squad.

With some of Mexico’s first-choice starters not on the roster (Hector Herrera, Andres Guardado, and Jesus ‘Tectatito’ Corona,) head coach Diego Cocca will look to form a new attack with players like Club America forward Henry Martin and Feyenoord striker Santiago Gimenez.

Cocca spoke about this decision, saying that Martin is a leader on the pitch and that they will need him going forward.

Suriname team news

Suriname is a heavy underdog in this matchup.

They may have players in the top five leagues worldwide, including Sheraldo Becker at Union Berlin, Joey Roggeveen at Ajax, and Damil Dankerlui at FC Groningen. However, it still may not be enough to overcome Mexico.

They’ll also be missing striker Mitchell Tevreden due to injury; Almere City forward Jeredy Hilterman was called in to replace him.

Mexico vs Suriname score prediction

Mexico have the upper hand here. They have new players into the national team fold, and a coach they is motivated to get them back to the top of CONCACAF. Although Suriname does boast talent from top leagues over the world, Mexico attack looks formidable, and for that, El Tri will likely be the winners.

Prediction: Mexico 3-0 Suriname
