New Zealand player Meikayla Moore scored three own goals in her country's SheBelieves Cup game against US women’s national team on Sunday.

Moore scored the hat-trick of own goals in the opening 36 minutes of the game before ultimately being subbed off in the 40th minute.

The defender's nightmare started with the first of three own goals on the five minute mark. Moore attempted to block a cross from USWNT player Sophia Smith but sliced it into bottom right corner. New Zealand goalkeeper Erin Nayler dove to make the save but couldn’t reach the ball in time.

Her second came via an assist from Margaret Purce, who centered the ball into the box before Moore headed into her own goal by mistake. The third and final own goal also came from a Purce assist, as she attempted to find Smith on the other side of the pitch before Moore deflected it past Nayler.

Moore currently features for Liverpool FC in the FA Women’s Championship.

The USWNT concluded the match 5-0, with additional goals by Ashley Hatch and Mallory Pugh. The American side is undefeated in the 2022 SheBelieves Cup, drawing against the Czech Republic before overpowering New Zealand.

The USWNT head into their final match of the tournament on February 23 vs. Iceland.
