OL Reign has signed forward Megan Rapinoe to a new contract through the 2023 NWSL Season. She is set for her 11th consecutive campaign with the club, standing as one of just 10 players who have featured in all 10 NWSL seasons.

“I’m back, Seattle! This club means the world to me, and I’m fully committed to helping this team to the best of my ability,” Rapinoe said in a club release

Rapinoe is coming off a limited role with the Reign in 2022, playing just 14 matches after picking up an early injury. But she still managed to lead the team in goals and assists with seven and four, respectively, and inspire the Reign to the NWSL Shield as the club with the best regular-season record.

“Pinoe is here to stay! I think her performances last season truly showed everyone that she is one of the best players in the world,” said head coach Laura Harvey. “Her loyalty and commitment to this club is unreal. I am so pleased we get to work together again and push this club to even bigger heights.”

The player will be aiming to use the 2023 NWSL campaign to build rhythm for the upcoming World Cup. She’s aiming to make an unprecedented third appearance at the international tournament with the US women’s national team, after playing an integral role in the 2015 and 2019 winning editions.

The forward also won the Golden Boot and Golden Ball at the 2019 World Cup for her performance in the American’s triumph in France.

Though Rapinoe is not included in the USWNT’s roster for the upcoming friendlies in New Zealand due to an ankle injury, she is expected to make the World Cup squad.
