Matt Beard has backed his Liverpool squad to rally around Meikayla Moore, after the New Zealand defender scored a hat-trick of own goals during her country's 5-0 defeat to the USWNT.
The 25-year-old put the ball in the back of her own net with her left foot, right foot and head inside the opening 36 minutes of the match, before being substituted on the stroke of half time.
Moore - who has played her football at Championship outfit Liverpool since 2020 - will return to the club after New Zealand conclude their SheBelieves Cup campaign against the Czech Republic on Wednesday.

"It was obviously a difficult time for Meikayla Moore playing for New Zealand and I’m devastated for her, but these things can happen in football," Beard told Liverpool's official club website. "We will support her as always and we will rally round her as a club and as a team. We are a close-knit group.
"I know it’s not nice in the moment, but I’m confident she will recover from it. She is such a diamond and our fans will welcome her back with the fantastic song they have for her."
The USWNT extended their margin of victory in the second half thanks to goals from Ashley Hatch and Mallory Pugh to record their first win of the 2022 SheBelieves Cup.
New Zealand are making their maiden appearance at the competition and currently sit bottom in the round robin tournament, having lost 1-0 to Iceland in their opening match.
Moore's return to club football will see her look to help seal promotion back to the WSL with Liverpool. The Reds currently sit 10 points clear at the Championship summit with seven matches remaining.
Liverpool will also be looking to spring a surprise in their next outing, as they take on WSL leaders Arsenal in the FA Cup this coming Sunday.
