Manchester United have confirmed that Marcus Rashford has been punished internally for missing training last week.

Rashford reported ill for United training on Friday and Saturday after being spotted partying at a Belfast nightclub on Thursday night.

Erik ten Hag dropped Rashford from Sunday's matchday squad to face Newport County in round four of the FA Cup. The forward made himself available for the clash on the day but was ordered to stay behind and train at Carrington.

Rashford and his agent then met with Ten Hag and United's football director John Murtough to discuss last week's incident before United released a statement on Monday clarifying the situation.

"Marcus has taken responsibility for his actions. This has been dealt with as an internal disciplinary matter, which is now closed," the statement read.

The Sun report Rashford's punishment is a fine of £650,000, which roughly works out to two weeks worth of his wages.

This is not the first time Rashford has been disciplined by Ten Hag for a breach of conduct. In December 2022, he was dropped from the starting lineup for a trip to Wolves after arriving late for a team meeting, though he came off the bench to score the winner in a 1-0 victory.

Coincidentally, Rashford will be available for selection when United again travel to Wolves this Thursday evening. Gary O'Neil's side will go above the Red Devils with a win at Molineux, with Ten Hag's men at risk of dropping into the bottom half if Chelsea and Newcastle also pick up three points in midweek.
