Marcelo has vowed to return to Real Madrid in the near future after confirming his departure from the club, admitting he is torn over whether to hang his boots up immediately.

The 34-year-old will walk away from Real this summer after 15 years at the club, ending his spell at the Santiago Bernabeu on a high after lifting the Champions League trophy after Saturday's final against Liverpool.

As Real celebrated that victory, Marcelo was asked about his future, and while he insisted he still wants to keep on playing, he admitted that his love for Real could see him retire immediately.

"I am very happy," he began (via Marca). My family is happy and seeing the joy on their faces is priceless.

"I think I will continue at the club. I have to be here. I have a few years left to play and such, but I need to come back now.

"I'm very happy. I've had some incredible nights at this stadium."

Listen now to 90min's brand new podcast, Talking Transfers, with Scott SaundersGraeme Bailey & Toby Cudworth. This week they discuss West Ham's Declan Rice contract plans, Gabriel Jesus' Manchester City future and how Aston Villa still want Yves Bissouma despite adding Boubacar Kamara to their ranks. There's also chat on Kylian Mbappe's decision to stay at PSG, Aurelien Tchouameni & Mohamed Salah.

He continued: "Real Madrid means a lot. It's responsibility, pride, work, humility. You enjoy every day, every training session. I know it's not my last day here, I'll be back."

The Champions League triumph was the 25th trophy victory of Marcelo's Real career, making him the most decorated player in the history of the club.

"I've always believed in myself and wanted to make history, but 25 titles? I couldn't dream of that," he continued.

"I've passed a Real Madrid legend like Gento. I'm leaving here with my duty fulfilled."
