Marc Skinner hoping to stay at Man Utd as 'conversations' over contract take place
Manchester United manager Marc Skinner is keen stay at the club for a long time and is hopeful that the achievements of his team during his 18 months in charge provide ‘indicators’ as to why he should.
Skinner was appointed on a two-year contract with an option for a further 12 months in the summer of 2021 following the resignation of predecessor Casey Stoney.
The 39-year-old, who has taken an improving United firmly into the top three battle so far this season and potentially more, has now entered the final six months of that initial two-year period.
Usually fielding questions about contract situations of players like Alessia Russo and Ona Batlle, Skinner cut a relaxed figure when asked his own situation on Wednesday. But the United boss also made it clear that he is keen to stay and is in it for the long haul.
“The whole reason we sign the option is that’s in the club’s prerogative to do that,” he said.
“There are conversations, of course. If you know me, I’m very simple and straight over what I want to do, which is win here. I’m hoping that the qualities we’re putting out on the field, the consistency, the clean sheets, the goals, the way we perform, the fan growth, hopefully there are a lot of indicators as to why we should be here for a long time.
“I’m really easy on that – I trust the club wholeheartedly, I trust everything we do here. It’s not about me, it’s about this team and us being focused on what we’ve got to do, which is perform against Reading and try and take another win.”
United continue their WSL season with a trip to Reading on Sunday, having moved into second place last weekend following a 6-0 demolition of Liverpool.
The Red Devils have the same record as Arsenal 10 games into the campaign, but are ahead of the Gunners on goal difference. Reigning champions Chelsea are only three points ahead and have also played a game more with a slightly inferior goal difference to Skinner’s side.
