Manchester United manager Marc Skinner expressed his disappointment following the team's defeat against Chelsea in the Women's FA Cup final, saying the opposition did "hardly anything in the game".

Sam Kerr scored the only goal in front of a record-breaking crowd at Wembley to secure Chelsea's third successive Women's FA Cup.

Chelsea were certainly not at their best, a fact that Skinner made sure to highlight in his post-match comments.

"We switch off in one moment. There was space for Sam [Kerr], when we kept her quiet they didn’t do anything. They might be winning it now but they won’t be there in the future.

"The girls have kept Sam quiet, Chelsea didn’t do much in the game," he added.

Despite the loss, Skinner praised his players for their hunger and expressed his ambition to challenge top teams consistently, saying: "I'm proud of the girls today, they are hungry. Their position is what we want to take. We are a young, hungry team. I need to find the pieces to make sure we challenge all the time."

While acknowledging Chelsea's winning mentality, Skinner believed his team had kept them relatively quiet in the game.

"Chelsea have done hardly anything in the game, but they are winners for a reason, they find that tiny little gap," he stated.

Skinner remained optimistic about the future and thanked the fans for their support: "I want to thank all the fans, they have been magnificent. We won't dwell on this, it fuels us. We watch this [Chelsea celebrate], this will be us in the future," he affirmed.

The manager emphasized that the defeat would serve as motivation for the team to continue striving for success: "This fuels us. I promise we will do everything to keep getting you back in finals and in the Champions League. Along the way you get a few bumps, and today was one.

"We're growing, but the experience that Chelsea have and the investment put in over the years is a factor. But we are bridging gaps. We need to keep being in the pool for the best players. This is the club you want to come to if you’re a top talent. We're going places."

Manchester United will try to put the loss behind them and focus on pipping Chelsea to the WSL title, as they host Manchester City in a derby next week before facing Liverpool on the final day of the season.
