One of British football's oldest and most famous rivalries resumes on Thursday night as Manchester United host Liverpool in the Premier League.

The match was originally postponed due to United fans protesting over the Glazer family's ownership of the club, and comes in a condensed week of fixtures for the Red Devils.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's men lost to Leicester as recently as Tuesday, just 48 hours after winning 3-1 at Aston Villa. Despite that loss to the Foxes, the hosts are in good form - it was their first defeat in 15 Premier League games - and, although it handed rivals Manchester City the title, they still look good for a second place finish.

This season has been a monumental struggle for Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool, who have failed to replicate the form they have shown in recent years. The Reds are currently sixth in the table but could leapfrog West Ham into fifth with as little as a point on Thursday.

Just one loss in their last ten in all competitions has suggested a more sturdy final stretch of the campaign could be in order. Klopp's men ended a run of two straight draws in the league last time out, beating Southampton 2-0 to make it four wins in their previous six Premier League matches.

Here's 90min's preview of this titanic clash.

Manchester United team news

Harry Maguire is likely to miss the rest of the domestic season with ligament damage sustained against Villa. Anthony Martial remains sidelined for Solskjaer's side from the injury he picked up on international duty back in March.

United's Norwegian boss heavily rotated his starting XI on Tuesday night, so will be expected to name a stronger, more familiar lineup against Liverpool.

Liverpool team news

Jurgen Klopp must continue to make do without long-term absentees Virgil van Dijk, Jordan Henderson, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip, while Ozan Kabak and James Milner are also on the treatment table.

That should mean another outing for the inexperienced central defence partnership of Nat Phillips and Rhys Williams.

Manchester United vs Liverpool prediction

It's always hard to predict how a derby will turn out and, given current form, you'd expect this to be a tight game. However, Liverpool haven't won at Old Trafford in over seven years and lost 3-2 in their last visit just over three months ago - crashing out of the FA Cup in the process.

Although the visitors will be much more rested than their opponents, you have to expect the occasion alone will get the blood pumping. Edinson Cavani, Paul Pogba and Bruno Fernandes are at the top of their game, and could give Liverpool's makeshift backline a torrid time.

Of course, Klopp's side boast a plethora of forward talent themselves and, with the odd defensive mishap in United's locker, the Reds' front three will be hopeful of creating opportunities themselves - taking them will be key.

But against this current United side at their strongest, Liverpool may be made to wait even longer for a win at Old Trafford.

Prediction: Manchester United 2-1 Liverpool
