Manchester United to Offer Brandon Williams New & Improved Contract

Manchester United are ready to offer left-back Brandon Williams a 'major' new contract as a reward for his outstanding impact on the first team this season.

Since making his debut in a Carabao Cup meeting with Rochdale back in September, the 19-year-old has established himself as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's first-choice option in his position, making 26 appearances in all competitions before football was postponed.

He was handed a new contract back in October which sees him take home around £4,000-a-week, but The Athletic state that United want to recognise his impact on the team by offering him improved terms.

There is no mention of the salary on offer, only that this new contract would ensure Williams would be paid 'in keeping with his role' in Solskjaer's team.

The teenager has made no secret of his desire to make it at Old Trafford, even rejecting the chance to move away on loan last summer in favour of fighting for his place in the team. The speed of his rise to prominence has caught many by surprise, and some at the club have even speculated that Williams has already surpassed the level of Luke Shaw.

Shaw's contract is expected to be used as somewhat of a reference point in negotiations. The Englishman takes home £190,000-a-week, and while it's unlikely Williams will come anywhere close to that - United are very careful not to hand their academy graduates too much too soon - you can see what the club are prepared to pay their starting left-backs.

It's widely accepted by club officials and fans alike that Williams is deserving of a pay rise. He has been a revelation this season, filling in on both sides of defence and is even thought to be on the cusp of Gareth Southgate's England squad.

“His hunger is a lesson for everyone who wants to be a footballer, the attitude he’s showing," Solskjaer has said of Williams. "It’ll be up to him, myself and the club to keep him that hungry. I don’t expect him to change because he’s got the heart for it.

“He’s been absolutely outstanding since he came in. Every challenge we’ve put in front of him he’s tackled head-on.”

Williams is fully fit and ready to go for the Premier League's restart and he is expected to be a major figure for the remainder of the campaign, which is set to begin on 17 June when Arsenal travel to Manchester City and Sheffield United clash with Aston Villa.
