Manchester United set impressive comeback win record

Manchester United have often needed a little prod from the opposition this season before they start playing their best stuff.

The Red Devils have been slow starters throughout the 2020/21 campaign, but Sunday's victory at Aston Villa was another example of the resilience manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has managed to build in his squad.

Goals from Bruno Fernandes, Mason Greenwood and Edinson Cavani completed another impressive turnaround for United, who effectively have a top four position sewn up while losing second place would take a remarkable drop off in their last four games.

They set a pretty remarkable record on Sunday, too. That victory against the Villans was the tenth time United have come from behind to win a Premier League match this season, the most of any club in a single campaign in the competition's history.

Most of those victories have come against sides you would still expect United to beat, like Newcastle, Southampton, Sheffield United and Fulham, but it's still an incredible record - especially considering that nine of those ten victories came away from home.

While United will likely finish comfortably as the second best outfit to Pep Guardiola's Manchester City, the goal next term will undoubtedly be to close the gap between the two local rivals.

Solskjaer has endured plenty of criticism throughout his tenure at Old Trafford but by sealing a top four spot he would become the first United manager to do so in consecutive seasons since Sir Alex Ferguson - a real sign of progress.

They can still finish the season with some silverware, too.

United trounced Roma in the Europa League semi-finals, coming through 8-5 victors to reach the competition's showpiece event in Gdansk. There they'll face Unai Emery's Villarreal, who beat Arsenal 2-1 over two legs.
