Manchester United Could Move for Tottenham and Leicester Target Alassane Plea
By Robbie Walls
Manchester United are reportedly interested in Borussia Monchengladbach striker Alassane Plea, and could be set to steal a march on other interest parties Tottenham and Leicester City.
The former Nice striker has had a fine season in Germany thus far, scoring eight times as well as delivering seven assists as his side sit fourth in the Bundesliga table.
As for United, the search for a replacement for Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku has been ongoing since his departure last summer to Inter, and the club may have found their man in Plea.
According to an ESPN report, the Red Devils could make a move for French striker for as little as £25m, which would be a much cheaper alternative to another transfer target, Lyon striker Moussa Dembélé.
United's current attacking options of Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood have all enjoyed relatively successful goalscoring seasons, yet the club could still look to strengthen.
Equally, with growing speculation regarding the future of on-loan striker Odion Ighalo, the club may want to act quickly to ensure they are not left short for the start of next season - whenever that may be.
As for Plea, his impressive form in his two seasons in Germany, as well as his spell in France, has led to a host of interested parties, including Spurs and Leicester.
José Mourinho has been on the prowl for an able backup to star striker Harry Kane, as the England striker has continued to endure spells on the sidelines in recent seasons.
As for the Foxes, Brendan Rodgers' side will most likely be entering the Champions League next season, and will thus need reinforcements to share the goalscoring burden with Jamie Vardy.
While the reports does not go as far as suggesting any of these clubs have actively bid for the player, it does make for an interesting summer ahead.
