Manchester United 5-0 RB Leipzig: Player Ratings as Marcus Rashford Nets Hat-Trick for Rampant Red Devils

Manchester United hit five past RB Leipzig with Marcus Rashford scoring a hat-trick at Old Trafford in Wednesday night's Champions League clash.

Mason Greenwood put the hosts in front in the first period, but a second half blitz, including a trio of goals from the substitute, and Anthony Martial's penalty, made the German side look exceedingly ordinary on a superb night for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's men.

1. Goalkeeper & Defenders

David de Gea (GK) - 6/10 - Surprisingly, didn't really have much to do.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka (RB) - 8/10 - Played a few wayward passes out from the back but was so solid defensively, stifling Angelino on countless occasions.

Victor Lindelof (CB) - 6/10 - Very slow playing the ball out from the back, inviting Leipzig pressure with his lack of urgency. Did well at set pieces, though.

Harry Maguire (CB) - 6/10 - Maguire did better than his centre-back partner, but not by a lot. Weak playing out from the back and slow on the ball, he caused United unnecessary problems.

Luke Shaw (LB) - 7/10 - Couldn't be too imaginative with the ball due to Leipzig's high press, but this was one of Shaw's better performances this season. Covered runners well and wasn't caught out positionally.

2. Midfielders

Nemanja Matic (CM) - 6/10 - Tasked with patrolling the spaces in front of the centre-halves, Matic barely touched the ball but blocked off passing lanes instead.

Fred (CM) - 7/10 - Got caught panicking whenever he was pressed on the ball, especially in the first half. Teamed up with Matic to congest central areas well.

Paul Pogba (CM) - 8/10 - Good defensive showing from Pogba who was forced to cover his defenders on numerous occasions. Even drifting wide he provided Shaw with assistance. Disciplined and solid, he did well shielding the ball and building attacks, like for the first goal.

Donny van de Beek (AM) - 8/10 - Van de Beek's intelligence shone through at Old Trafford, with each touch measured and predetermined to either buy his side time or make spaces for others. Very classy - a nice partnership with Pogba developing.

3. Forwards

Mason Greenwood (ST) - 7/10 - His calmness in front of goal shouldn't come as a surprise anymore, but at such a young age it's still remarkable for someone to have such composure on the ball. Took his goal very well.

Anthony Martial (ST) - 6/10 - Was lost for large spells of the game with little intention of tracking back to help out his teammates. Likely a command issued to him by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer but is impact on the game was minor.

Marcus Rashford - 10/10: An astonishing performance from an astonishing young man.

Péter Gulácsi (GK) - 3/10 - Barring United's solid start, there was little for Gulasci to do on Wednesday apart from pick the ball out of the net.

Ibrahima Konaté (CB) - 5/10 - All the talk pre-game was how annoyingly good Upamecano is, but his partner on the right, Konate, looked very impressive in the first half...but not so much in the second.

Dayot Upamecano (CB) - 4/10 - Hmmm didn't exactly do himself justice tonight.

Marcel Halstenberg (CB) - 3/10 - Lost his man for the opener when he was caught ball-watching, so poor after the break.

6. Midfielders

Benjamin Henrichs (RM) - 6/10 - Couldn't offer much in an attacking sense but he won tackle after tackle and kept Leipzig's pressure up.

Christopher Nkunku (CM) - 6/10 - Forced to drift wide with United congesting central areas, but was lively throughout and a constant thorn presence in the game.

Kevin Kampl (CM) - 4/10 - Was the deepest of the midfield quartet but struggled to create much of note bar spraying passes out wide.

Angeliño (LM) - 3/10 - Wan-Bissaka had him in his pocket. Couldn't get passed him all evening.

7. Forwards

Dani Olmo (RW) - 5/10 - If Leipzig were going to do anything, Olmo was going to be involved. The Spaniard is wonderfully talented with the ball at his feet, but his intelligence and movement off it likewise.

Yussuf Poulsen (ST) - 3/10 - Offered nothing. Not all his fault as he was lodged in between a Lindelof, Maguire and Matic triangle throughout.

Emil Forsberg (LW) - 5/10 - Was getting marked out of the game by Wan-Bissaka and played in a bizarre centre-forward role that didn't pay off.
