Exclusive: Manchester City are prepared to offer starlet Phil Foden a new and improved, lucrative contract, tying the England international's long-term future to the Premier League club.

The 20-year-old signed his first professional deal with the Citizens back in 2018, which runs until the summer of 2024. Despite the midfielder having another four years left on that agreement, Man City are ready to invest heavily in their youth academy product.

90min can exclusively reveal that the English giants are readying a bumper contract to offer Foden, which would see his current wage increase from £30,000 a week to in excess of a whopping £150,000 a week.

Talks have begun between the player and the club, and it is believed that he could sign the new deal in the coming weeks.

The starlet has developed rapidly since signing his first senior contract, becoming a full England international in September, and growing his reputation as one of the best young midfielders in world football.

Foden saw his opportunities improve under Pep Guardiola last year, and he went on to make 23 Premier League appearances, scoring five goals and laying on two assists. He has started the new season in scintillating form, too, getting off the mark in his side's 3-1 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers on Monday evening.

The new campaign has not come without its own problems, however. The youngster caused a huge controversy by breaking curfew rules while on international duty with England, and he was sent home in disgrace by Three Lions coach Gareth Southgate.

Man City have stood by their superstar's side throughout this saga, and he has repaid them with some excellent performances on the pitch. And the Citizens seem desperate to reward Foden for his efforts, and avoid the possibility of unsettling and losing another of their academy products.

The Manchester club famously failed to keep hold of Jadon Sancho, who headed toBorussia Dortmund in 2017, and quickly became a superstar with the German giants. Young forward Jamie Bynoe-Gittens has also followed in Sancho's footsteps by joining Der BVB this summer from Guardiola's side, as he goes in search of first-team football.
