The Manchester City team that should start against Aston Villa
Manchester City will look to put the Super League dramas behind them by inching closer to a third Premier League title in four years with a win over Aston Villa on Wednesday night.
After Chelsea crushed their quadruple hopes at Wembley and losing their last league game to ten-man Leeds United, City are desperate to pick up some momentum having seen their lead at the top of the table cut to just eight points.
Manager Pep Guardiola has made several changes to the team in recent games with mixed results, so he needs to ensure he picks the right team from the start this time against a tough Villa side.
Let's takes a look at the side that should start for the Cityzens.
1. Goalkeeper & defenders
Ederson (GK) - City's undisputed number one was given the night off at Wembley as Guardiola stuck by his cup keeper, but he'll return here.
Kyle Walker (RB) - Walker has tremendous pace and is good going forward, so will likely return to the lineup to help at both ends of the pitch.
John Stones (CB) - Was dropped for the semi-final but was excellent in defeat against Leeds and should return to the lineup to continue his great form.
Ruben Dias (CB) - City's biggest and most important character in defence, Dias starts when fit and his leadership will be essential.
Oleksandr Zinchenko (LB) - Despite being a midfielder by trade, Zinchenko rarely disappoints in this role and is likely to return to the team for balance.
2. Midfielders
Fernandinho (DM) - The cornerstone of much of Man City's success, his experience could be vital to get the club back on track.
Bernardo Silva (CM) - With Kevin De Bruyne ruled out through injury, the Portuguese midfielder should return to a more central position and look to continue his good form.
Ilkay Gundogan (CM) - The club's top goalscorer this season, Gundogan is on a bit of a dry patch right now but will be the main man in midfield and will be key with his passing and movement.
3. Forwards
Riyad Mahrez (RW) - The Algerian wide man has five goals and three assists in his last ten appearances and will look to continue that excellent form here from the start.
Raheem Sterling (ST) - The 26-year-old has struggled for consistent form this season but Sterling could be given another chance from the start through the middle with Aguero injured and Jesus out of form.
Phil Foden (LW) - City's best and most consistent attacker this season, Foden must start. With his knack of netting important goals and ability to play in several positions, he holds the keys to unlock the Villa defence.
