Manchester United Women defender Martha Harris has become the latest player to sign a new contract and commit her immediate future to the club for next season.

Harris has agreed a new one-year deal until 2021, with the option to extend by a further 12 months until the end of the 2021/22 campaign. She follows in the footsteps of Ella Toone, Jess Sigsworth, Amy Turner and Kirsty Hanson, all of whom have already penned fresh deals this summer.

Harris was an original member of the newly formed United squad in 2018 and was the regular right-back during the club’s promotion winning campaign. But the surprise departure of former captain Alex Greenwood last summer saw the versatile 25-year-old switch to the left.

Her performances were a key part of United finishing their debut WSL season in fourth place.

“I’m so happy to be signing a new deal with the club. I’ve loved every minute of the journey here so far and I can’t wait to see what the future holds,” Harris told ManUtd.com.

“It’s an exciting time to be at the club, we did well last season and I know we can push on further and really compete with the top teams in the league. I am just really happy to be back training and putting in the hard work ahead of next season.”

Manager Casey Stoney commented, “Martha is a fantastic player who has been an important figure in our backline over the last couple of years. She is another hard working and competitive player who also brings great enthusiasm and character to the dressing room.

“I’m pleased she has committed to the club and I’m looking forward to developing her further throughout the next season.”

Aside from securing the respective futures of existing stars to new contracts since the 2019/20 came to an end, United have also been busy recruiting new faces to bring additional depth.

Experienced WSL star and England international Lucy Staniforth has made a high profile switch from Birmingham, while United have also captured emerging Spain full-back Ona Batlle and Germany Under-19 starlet Ivana Fuso. Meanwhile, veteran goalkeeper Siobhan Chamberlain has left the club.
