Manchester United will mathematically guarantee themselves a top three WSL finish for the first time as long as they avoid defeat to Manchester City in the season's penultimate round of fixtures. With that will also come a place in the Champions League.

Marc Skinner's United have seen Chelsea jump ahead of them into first place in the WSL title race this week, having also been beaten by the Blues in heartbreaking fashion in last weekend's FA Cup final. The task is to now pick themselves up again for another huge game.

City come into this one after losses to Arsenal and Liverpool in their last four WSL games have massively dented their own top three hopes. They can no longer win the title and are extremely unlikley to finish ahead of United because of the 17-strong deficit in goal difference. Their only hope is that Arsenal, in action against Chelsea this weekend, drop points to open the door to third place.

Ironically, United fans will be supporting Arsenal in that London derby because a Gunners victory combined with a Manchester derby win would put the title race in their hands for the final weekend.

Man Utd vs Man City score prediction

A lot will depend on how Manchester United respond to their Wembley defeat. If the nature of that loss has a deflating effect, this could be an opportunity for Manchester City. But, if Skinner's team show the resilience that they have developed over the last 12 months, they could still win.

City have shown this season that they can beat anyone, as proven by taking all three points in a March clash with Chelsea. But inconsistency has cost them, dropping eight points across three games against Aston Villa and Liverpool. The margins at the top of the WSL are that small.

Manchester derbies in the WSL are often entertaining and full of goals. Indeed, the last two played at Leigh Sports Village in the league have finished 2-2.

Prediction: Man Utd 2-2 Man City
