The agent of Napoli right back Giovanni Di Lorenzo has dismissed rumours suggesting the Italian could join Manchester United this summer.

Di Lorenzo enjoyed an excellent Euro 2020 campaign with Italy. After coming off the bench in the first game, he played every minute for the Azzurri, forcing his way ahead of Alessandro Florenzi in the pecking order en route to lifting the trophy.

Because of his impressive form, United were recently tipped to reignite their interest which dates all the way back to early 2020, with claims that a £17m bid could be arriving any second now.

However, Di Lorenzo's agent has since moved to dismiss the story, insisting there is nothing between United and the right back.

“If proposals arrive, we are obliged to take them into consideration, also in the interest of Napoli because it’s the president himself who has put everyone on the market, so we feel we are on the market," Mario Giuffredi told Si Gonfia La Rete.

“If an appropriate offer arrives, it’s discussed and considered. For now, it’s newspaper talk. I’ve read about Manchester United, but now it’s newspaper talk. If there were real things, we would be the ones to communicate it to Napoli. At the moment, no request has arrived."

Not only did Giuffredi dismiss a move to United for Di Lorenzo, but he even suggested that the right back could be about to trigger a one-year contract extension - something later backed up by Fabrizio Romano.

Obviously, none of this means that United definitely won't try to sign Di Lorenzo. It simply means their interest is perhaps not so advanced, if present at all, and £17m almost certainly wouldn't get the job done.

United are on the hunt for a right back to compete with Aaron Wan-Bissaka next season and Di Lorenzo's name has been mentioned on a list which also includes Atletico Madrid's Kieran Trippier.

Concerns over Trippier's asking price, which could sit at close to the £40m mark, have seen United turn to other targets, and sources have confirmed to 90min that Rangers' James Tavernier is on a list of possible alternatives.
