Lyon striker Moussa Dembele is 'understandably impressed' by the prospect of joining Premier League giants Manchester United this summer, as the Red Devils look to bolster their attacking lineup for the coming season.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has put together a young and bold side since being named permanent coach at Old Trafford, recruiting the likes of Daniel James and Aaron Wan-Bissaka while placing his faith in teenager and youth academy product Brandon Williams.
And a top priority for the Norwegian boss will be to add to their measly centre forward options, after the club allowed Romelu Lukaku to leave in the summer without signing an adequate replacement. Ex-Watford man Odion Ighalo signed on a short-term deal in January to provide some attacking cover, but it's unclear whether his future remains in England.
And the Manchester Evening News believes Lyon striker Dembele is 'under consideration' to fill the void left by Lukaku, and the Frenchman is in turn 'impressed' by the idea of joining the Premier League outfit.
The 23-year-old has been sensational for the Ligue 1 side this season, bagging 16 goals in 27 appearances, but Les Gones have contrived to end the campaign in seventh place, despite their striker's heroics.
With the campaign having been brought to a permanent end following the coronavirus outbreak, Lyon are sure to miss out on European football next season, meaning Dembele may decide now is the time to test himself at a higher level elsewhere.
If United are able to secure Champions League football for the 2020/21 campaign, they may be the most attractive prospect on the table for the former Celtic man. And the forward would also count towards the homegrown player requirements which the Premier League side must fulfil, after coming through the ranks at Fulham.
However, the final word on the signing must come from coach Solskjaer, who is adamant on following a certain recruitment plan, after several poor decisions in the transfer market led to the club's current situation.
There is no hiding from the fact that United are in desperate need of a natural goalscorer though, and Dembele could be the answer to the club's prayers.
