Manchester United have opened talks with Bayern Munich over a potential deadline day loan move for Marcel Sabitzer, 90min understands.

The Red Devils have entered the market late due to Christian Eriksen's ankle problem - an injury which will mean the first-choice midfielder will be out of action until May.

Due to said injury, United have had to change tact on deadline day and attempt to make a last minute signing. And that signing could be set to be Austrian star Sabitzer from Bayern.

Having earlier been offered the player, 90min can report that talks are underway between Sabizter's representatives and the Red Devils over a potential loan deal until the end of the current season.

Sabitzer is said to be 'very excited' about the potential move to Old Trafford.

That is despite his agent, Roger Wittmann, recently suggesting to German publication Bild that the midfielder was happy at Bayern: "Marcel feels comfortable with Bayern and has signed a five-year contract. To date, neither the club nor we have claimed anything else."

United will have until 11pm (GMT) to finalise a deal to sign Sabitzer, who previously spent seven years at RB Leipzig - including one of those on loan at Red Bull Salzburg.
