Manchester United have announced the signing of Spain winger Lucia Garcia, loading the squad with more invaluable attacking options ahead of the new WSL season.

24-year-old Garcia joins United after spending the last six seasons at Athletic Club in Bilbao.

“The fact that a club the size of Manchester United has put their faith in me is a dream come true. I already feel very much at home here,” the player said.

“There’s a great family atmosphere at the club, which is the exact environment in which I thrive. I will give everything I have on the field to make our fans proud, and hopefully score a few goals as well!”

Fans have already had the chance to catch a glimpse of Garcia in action at Euro 2022 with Spain, helping La Roja reach the quarter-finals.

United boss Marc Skinner said: “We are delighted to sign Lucia to Manchester United Women. Her addition shows the continuing commitment to our team's progression.

“Lucia possesses wonderful agility and the 1v1 abilities that will be exciting to our fans and the league. We now look forward to embedding her into the squad over pre-season.”

Skinner has been keen to make the most of the summer transfer window to boost attacking depth in the squad after struggling to kill games off on several occasions last season, ultimately proving costly in the pursuit of a top three WSL place and Champions League football.

To that end, United have already secured deals for Adriana Leon and Rachel Williams, with Grace Clinton arriving in midfield and Maya Le Tissier boosting the defence.
