Manchester United saw their new 2023/24 home shirt leaked on Saturday, three days ahead of its official launch, when rapper Aitch wore it on stage at Glastonbury for the world to see.

Usually when kits are leaked a few days ahead of schedule it will be much more low key, often a sportswear shop accidentally displaying it early. It relies on keen-eyed fans to spot them and share. But there can be no mistaking it when a performer at the world’s biggest music festival is wearing a shirt live in front of thousands upon thousands of people – and millions more on TV.

Social media has been abuzz ever since with those pictures of the new United jersey, before either the club or adidas have actually unveiled it.

United haven’t been able to ignore the hype and have confirmed that the shirt Aitch was wearing is indeed what the likes of Marcus Rashford, Bruno Fernandes, Ella Toone and Leah Galton will soon be wearing in the Premier League, WSL and both Champions League competitions come next season.

“Our new home kit was seen for the first time on Saturday when lifelong United fan and Manchester native Aitch wore it proudly, during his acclaimed performance on Glastonbury’s legendary Pyramid Stage,” a club statement read, which also reshared the somewhat redundant teaser video.

United have additionally sought to remind fans of the 27 June launch date.

The club has confirmed that Rashford was the most popular men’s team shirt sold via United Direct during the 2022/23 season. The 30-goal forward was followed by new signings Casemiro, Lisandro Martinez and Antony in second, third and fourth respectively.

Fernandes was next in fifth, with teen starlet Alejandro Garnacho following and Christian Eriksen seventh as he continued a near miraculous career comeback after a cardiac arrest in 2021.

The most popular women’s team shirt was that of England star Toone, who wears number seven. Next in the list were Katie Zelem, goalkeeper Mary Earps and the aforementioned Galton.
