Man Utd's reaction to explosive Cristiano Ronaldo interview with Piers Morgan

Manchester United are understood to be 'furious' with Cristiano Ronaldo following his interview with Piers Morgan, which was part-released on Sunday night.

Ronaldo sat down with Morgan to discuss his situation at United at length, with the full discussion to be aired later this week, and has admitted to feeling "betrayed" by the club after initially rejoining in 2021.

The 37-year-old attempted to leave United last summer but might have written the final chapter of his United career this time around, admitting he "doesn't respect" current manager Erik ten Hag, that people have been trying to force him out of the club and that he'd "never heard" of former interim manager Ralf Rangnick when he was appointed.

Ronaldo also criticised the club for failing to modernise their facilities, admitting to Morgan: "Since Sir Alex Ferguson left, I saw no evolution in the club. The progress was zero. Nothing changed. Not the pool, the jacuzzi, even the gym, even some points the technology, the kitchen.

"They stopped in time. I thought I would see different things, different technology, infrastructure, but unfortunately we see many things that I saw when I was 20, 21."

The Portuguese superstar made it clear how he felt let down by he felt by the club with the fallout set to continue throughout this week - United don't play another game for five weeks with the World Cup on the horizon - and United must now decide how to proceed.

90min understands that United are 'furious' with Ronaldo for the steps he's taken. They had believed he and Ten Hag were on 'decent' terms and both would see it through to the current break - at which point Ronaldo's long-term future would be decided.

United feel 'blind-sided' and 'expected better' from the player given his relationship to them and the fanbase.

90min also understands that the club's owners the Glazer family are far from pleased with how things are playing out and have made it clear to chief executive Richard Arnold that they want the situation to be resolved 'as soon possible'.
